Do you know what normal flow rate for a household faucet is? It should range between 0.5 and 1.5 gallons per minute. You might wonder why that matters, and the answer is that having pressure that is too high will damage your pipes, while having too low pressure might just be irritating, but it could even cause sudden temperature changes when using a faucet and a shower at the same time.

How do you check what your flow rate is? It is actually quite easy for you to do this test yourself. Since water flow is measured in gallons per minute, you could split it up in 4 and spend 15 seconds filling up a measuring container. Once you multiply the amount of water collected by 4, you will know what your flow rate is.

When you know whether the flow rate is too high or too low, you will need to figure out what the cause is.
